The former region of Yugoslavia comprises countries with a range of languages, particularities and client needs. Our presence in the region over the past decade has given us a deep knowledge about the differences and similarities between Balkan nations.

Our team was established in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in 2005, and comprises multidisciplinary experts including both local and international engineers.  These specialist have accrued experience in various sectors, and have participated in a range of projects funded by international institutions such as the World Bank, the European Union and the EBRD.

This experience has led us to understand the similarities across Balkan nations both in the regulations and procedures for obtaining permits and approvals, which are virtually identical across all Balkan countries, and in the work culture. We tap into this knowledge by drawing from a pool of local experts who participate in different projects. For example, Bosnian engineers lead projects in Kosovo or Macedonia. Our engineers are fluent in Bosnian, Croatian, Montenegrin and Serbian.

The  AECOM Balkans office is also supported by central organisation. We hold a license from the Federal Ministry for Spatial Planning in Federation of BiH for the performance of design activities for all types of civil engineering structures, for activities in the field of architecture and for hydro installations and hydro-technical structures. We also hold a licence for geotechnical design projects.

AECOM Balkans’ activity spans all project stages, creating permanent liaisons with public institutions and private clients. A significant number of our projects are large civil infrastructure schemes across Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia. Over the years, there has been a consistent increase in work volume, resulting in a need to upgraded our premises. We now operate from an office in one of the main business centres in Sarajevo.
